About Jack Ward

Jack Ward, who started pirating for England when he was in his 30s, was born in Faversham in 1553. Ward, who initially made a living by fishing, decided to become a pirate after the Spanish ships were constantly attacking England. Because Queen Elizabeth I could no longer deal with these attacks and asked for help from the public in order to be less damaged. Although the war between the Spaniards and the British was over, many people did not stop plundering the Spanish ships. As a result, since there is no longer a state-related situation, those who do this work are called pirates.
