The situation is complicated when observing molecules in the superficial layer of water. These molecules are not completely surrounded by other molecules. They only get power from one side, not the other. To solve this problem, molecules reposition themselves as they try to find a shape that will minimize the surface area they occupy. For the same volume, the geometric body with the smallest surface area is the sphere. For all these reasons, water droplets form when water is poured in a circular or spherical shape. This is also the reason why objects that have little mass and are denser than water (like shoehorn bugs) can float because the water surface is not broken to allow a foreign object to enter.
The surface tension in water is higher than in other liquids, as the geometry of its molecules is angular and causes more force to exist. Usually, a water droplet is depicted in the form of a teardrop. But these drops do not have a similar shape unless they fall on a window. Small raindrops have a radius of less than a millimeter and a spherical shape. When the largest ones reach radii greater than 4.5 mm, they take the form of hamburger buns. When this happens, the droplets transform into a parachute with a tube of water around the base and spread out as smaller droplets. This change in the shape of the water droplets is due to the stretching of two forces acting simultaneously. First is the surface tension seen earlier and the second is air pressure, the layer to push up the base of the fall as it falls. When the water droplet is smaller, the surface tension exerts a greater force than that of the air pressure, so the drop takes the shape of a sphere. The larger the size of the water droplet, the greater the speed of its fall, the greater the force exerted by the air pressure on the water droplet. This causes the drop to become flatter and a depression to form in it. When the radius of the drop exceeds 4 mm, the depression in the center of the drop increases, forming a bag with a water ring on top, and a few smaller ones from this large drop.
