Food is the substance that living things must consume in order to survive. Food consumed at a particular meal is called a meal. Food can be produced from organic or inorganic materials. Substances such as protein, vitamins and minerals, which are found in food and are necessary for the survival and growth of living things, are called nutrients or food. However, the word food is also used to mean "all foods and beverages consumed to sustain life, except for drugs." Food is usually a mixture of carbohydrates, fats, water and/or proteins. These substances, which contain nutrients beneficial to health, are necessary for the development of the organism. The foods in question are; It can be obtained from plant, animal sources, or other categories such as mushrooms, or from fermented foods such as alcohol. Although many societies previously obtained their food by hunting and gathering, today people get their food by farming, cattle ranching and fishing and hunting. Food items vary from society to society in terms of their types and structures. So much so that it can also show differences locally within the same society.
