A hurricane is a tropical wind that blows at more than 75 miles per hour. Hurricanes in warm seas can cause other wind disasters. One of the most destructive and dangerous tropical storms, the hurricane emerges over warm waters. Most hurricanes form in the Gulf of Mexico and the Antilles.
How Does a Hurricane Form?
Hurricanes require low air pressure, temperatures, tropical winds, and moist ocean air to form. Hurricanes form from June to November and are fed by heat energy, where water vapor condenses. The moist and warm air on the ocean surface begins to rise rapidly. As the warm air rises, the water vapor in it condenses to form storm clouds. A hurricane occurs when the heat heats the air above and rises.
