Jon Snow is a character from the American author George R. R. Martin's fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire and its television adaptation Game of Thrones.

Jon makes his first appearance in Game of Thrones (1996), the first book in the series. Being constantly ostracized as a bastard, he goes to the Wall with his uncle Benjen Stark, who is a ranger on the Wall, and takes the oath of the Night's Watch. In the second book, A Clash of Kings, Jon, together with Lord Commander Jeor Mormont and Qhorin Halfhand's expedition of 300, travel north of the Wall to investigate why the wildlings left their village. In the third book, A Storm of Swords, Jon meets and falls in love with a wild girl named Ygritte. He goes to the wildlings with the girl and tries to find out the wildlings' plan. He learns that the Wildlings have fled from the Others and are planning to invade the lands south of the Wall, and they betray the wildlings to flee to Castle Black and share command of Castle Black with the blacksmith Donal Noye, successfully defending the wildling's attack on Castle Black, but this victory is not achieved in the Night. It greatly reduces the number of Sentinels. In A Feast for Crows, he is one of the characters with no point of view, but appears briefly in episodes of Samwell Tarly. In the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, Jon helps Stannis to make a deal between the wildlings and the Night's Watch and win over the lords in the north, but his befriending with the wildlings separates him from his brothers, who betray him and kill Jon.
