Combining strength with courage and beauty with virtue, Rama aroused jealousy in his royal father's palace over time. The king chose him as his successor, but in order to pay off a debt of honor, he later had to choose in favor of his son, Bharata, by another wife. He ordered Rama to leave his kingdom. Rama saw his father's distress and chose to submit to his fate.

Whether Rama truly lived will never be known. The great epic Ramayana describing his life was written in the 1st millennium AD, when India was conquered by the Aryans, fair-skinned horsemen from the north of the country.

Rama's adventures may have been woven around the life of a real prince who lived in northern India between 1000 and 700 BC. There is no doubt that his adventures played an important role in the Hindu religion as much as the weight of the Aryan invasion in Indian history. As is known, there is no single central figure in Hinduism. In Hindu tradition, however, Rama's majesty shines brightly.

Legend has it that after Rama left his father's palace, he entered the enchanted Dandaka forest. Here he rescues a number of holy men from evil spirits. However, this draws the wrath of Ravana, the guardian of this forest. Ravana is the ten-headed demon king of the island of Lanka. To take revenge on Rama, he kidnaps Rama's wife Sita and takes him to his castle.

Rama has no followers, but he is so virtuous that an army of bears and monkeys offers to help him. They build a bridge over the strait that separates Lanka, raid Ravana's lair, and save the princess. Rama is reluctant to take Sita. He fears that he may have lost his virtue while in captivity. Sita jumps into a fire, but it never burns.
