A magnet is an object or material that produces a magnetic field. It attracts some metals such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and does not affect some metals and non-metals such as copper and aluminum. The magnetism effect is collected at two opposite ends of the materials. These two ends are called the north and south poles of the magnet. Equivalent poles of two magnets repel each other, while opposite poles attract each other. Magnets act on ferromagnetic materials with a relative magnetic permeability greater than 1. At 25 °C, iron, nickel and cobalt are ferromagnetic. If alloyed with iron (Fe), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) elements, they often retain their ferromagnetic properties.
