Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty (born December 8, 1982), aka Nicki Minaj, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actress born in Trinidad. She made a name for herself with her mixtape works released between 2007 and 2009 after she left a hip hop group she joined in 2001 in 2004. Following her solo success, she signed with Young Money Entertainment. Minaj's debut studio album Pink Friday (2010) topped the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified 3 platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). "Super Bass", the album's most successful single, was certified 8 times platinum and sold over 5 million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time in the US. At the same time, Minaj became the first female solo singer to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. His second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012), was one of the best-selling albums and best-selling rap album of the year, selling more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album's lead single, "Starships", debuted in the top five in the US and became one of the best-selling singles of 2012. By 2013, it was learned that the singer had sold 2.6 million albums and 13.5 million singles in the US alone.
