Pizza is a type of pita that is the traditional dish of Italians and is baked in the oven by putting tomato sauce, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, garlic, pepper, sausage (meat) and many other ingredients on the dough that is rolled out in a round shape.

The term pizza was first recorded in a Latin manuscript in Lazio in the 10th century. Today's pizza was invented in Naples in the 18th or early 19th century, and was brought to America by Italian immigrants in the late 19th century. In 2009, at the request of Italy, Neapolitan pizza was registered with the European Union as a Traditional Specialty Food Guarantee.
