On a clear night, where there is no light pollution, you are more likely to see shooting stars in the sky. Scientists call this light show, which is popularly called a "flowing star" or "shooting star", a meteor. It is not stars that cause meteorites to form. In fact, a meteor is a luminous phenomenon that takes place not in space, but in the atmosphere at an altitude of 75 km to 100 km from the ground. Every day, over a thousand tons of space dust and tiny meteorites are "shed" on Earth. Those up to 10 m in diameter are called meteoroids. Meteoroids are fragments of asteroids or comets. Among them, those of a few millimeters to a few centimeters in diameter “burn” and evaporate, entering the atmosphere at a speed of between 10,000 km and 70,000 km per hour, emitting colorful and very bright lights. They become part of the atmosphere. It is these flashes that we see as "shooting stars" at night.
