It is a natural, dynamic structure consisting of various degrees of decomposition products of rocks and organic materials, containing a large community of living things, a stopping place and food source for plants, and surrounding the uppermost part of the solid earth crust, which gains certain characteristics over a long period of time.

Like air and water, one of the indispensable elements for living things is soil. Soil is the main reservoir of resources from which vegetation feeds.

The top layer of the soil is the main source of nutrition for humans and other living things. There are millions of living things in a gram of soil, and all of them have a different importance for the continuation of the ecosystem. It is the 1 cm top layer of the soil that provides the fertility of the soil and is rich in humus.

How Soil Is Formed

It is formed as a result of physical disintegration and chemical decomposition of the soil parent material, consisting of rocks, minerals and organic materials, which is in contact with the soil, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. More or less successive physical, chemical and biological events play a major role in this formation.

Effects on soil formation

The main physical decomposition events are temperature changes, wetting, drying, freezing and thawing, mechanical effects of plant roots and other living things, reduction of pressure on the material, salt release and hydration of salts, the effects of rivers, glaciers and winds.
