It is known to have been built in 578 by the mathematician William Bourne. It was possible for this wooden submarine, covered with waterproof leather, to work as a successful design after about 45 years.

After this attempt, when the dates showed 1620, Cornelius Drebbel, who served as an engineer in the service of King James I of England, built a submarine, inspired by Bourne's design, which is considered to be the forerunner of modern submarines. This submarine, which has oars and makes progress with the help of these, has managed to descend to a depth of about 5 meters in the Thames River.

The construction of a submarine, which was used as a warship for the first time in history, took place during the American War of Independence in 1776. An American engineer, David Bushnell, created a one-man submarine called the Turtle. This submarine was powered by manually operated propellers and had the shape of an acorn.

At the time of the Industrial Revolution, man-made submarines began to be replaced by vehicles with a mechanical system. The first submarine with this feature was the Plongeur, or Diver, which was built in 1863. This ship was working with the help of compressed air. When the calendars showed 1867, the first submarine with an internal combustion engine system was launched in Barcelona.

In addition to all these turning points, it was the 1900s when a design that is considered the basis of modern submarines produced today emerged. Developed by John P. Holland, this ship was powered by an electric motor. Holland's submarine consisted of parts such as a cylindrical hull, a rudder for adjusting depth, and an airless power supply.
