Water, which forms a large part of the biological structures of living things, is an indispensable vital life support for all living things during the periods of birth, growth and development. Water, which is found in the form of solid, liquid and gas in nature, is found in the life of living things with different sources.
Three quarters of the earth's surface is covered with water. However, most of this water is in the sea in the form of salt water. Only 2.6% of the world's water reserve consists of fresh water. Water is in constant motion on earth. Water is used but not consumed. The used water is usually returned to the environment as polluted in the same amount. The water that evaporates from the seas and mixes with the atmosphere is carried to the earth by precipitation. While some precipitation falling on the earth is dragged underground, some of it returns to the sea as a flow. Water retained by the earth's crust also enters the atmosphere through evaporation and plant transpiration. This phenomenon is called the hydraulic cycle.
It is rare for the water, which is so abundant on earth, to be found in a hygienic structure that is necessary for human use. Although three quarters of the world is covered with water with its visible face, the biggest problem today is the lack of healthy, continuously usable water resources.
Water is a vital substance for living beings. An indicator of the vital importance of water for human beings is that our body contains 50-80% water, in other words, it is composed of water. The human organism expels up to 2.5 liters of water per day through various means. In order for normal vital body functions to continue, this amount must be replaced without the need for water reserves in the body. Therefore, a person needs at least 2.5 liters of water per day.
As a result of daily metabolic events in our body, 300 ml of water is produced from fat, carbohydrates and proteins. In addition, an average of 700 ml of water is taken with the foods taken throughout the day. If nutrition is normal and metabolism is sufficient, 1 liter of water requirement is guaranteed to be met. The remaining water requirement, which varies between 1.5-2 liters depending on age, should be met by drinking. Depending on the society, culture and traditions in which human beings live, they meet their water needs from suitable beverages such as spring water, Natural Mineral Water, fruit juice, city mains water, tea, coffee, soup. Therefore, the amount of water that needs to be taken daily is 1.5-2 liters.
