The founding process of Google began in January 1996 with the research project of Larry Page and Sergey Brin, PhD students at Stanford University in California. Page and Brin originally named their new search engine "BackRub" because they could guess the importance of checking backlinks for sites.
Later, however, an original spelling change was made on the word "googol" and this search engine was named Google. The name was given to indicate that a great source of information is available to people with the Google search engine, because googol refers to the number ten to the hundredth. He activated the domain name he uses today on September 15, 1997, and on September 4, 1998, the Google company was officially founded.
It is estimated that Google runs on more than one million servers in data centers around the world, processes more than a billion search requests, and twenty-four petabytes of data generated by its users per day. The pace of growth since its inception has led to the emergence of a chain of products, acquisitions and partnerships beyond the company's core web search engine.
