Celebrated every year on 15 August, Indian Independence Day is the day when India gained independence from Britain. India, which was a British colony between 1740 and 1947, was divided into Pakistan and India in 1940. The current Indian territory gained its independence on
August 15, 1947.
In 1740, India, which was controlled by the East India Company, the extension of England in the region, started to fight for independence in 1857 with the political formation called the Indian Independence Movement. The movement, which lasted 190 years and started its first military steps in Bengal, is known as the Indian Revolt of 1857.
