The stork, which belongs to the stork family, is a long-legged bird that is completely white except for its black and flight feathers. Their beaks and legs are red in adult storks and black in juveniles. Storks, which are a large bird species in size, average 100-115 cm in length. Storks with very wide wings have wings of approximately 155-125 cm. Thanks to these wings, they can migrate long distances. Storks mostly migrate long distances from tropical Africa to Southern Africa and India and spend the winter in these regions.
These carnivorous birds feed on insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, small birds and small mammals. Their preferred feeding areas are usually grasslands, fields, shallows and wetlands. They avoid tall grass and bushes. They do not like wooded areas.
Storks breed in wetlands and grassland areas where water is available. Female storks lay four eggs once a year. In about a month, all the offspring hatch at different moments. Male and female storks then incubate together and feed their young. After living with their parents for an average of 55-65 days, the cubs leave their nests. They usually breed in August and September. Since cool and rainy weather increases the mortality of offspring, air temperature is very important for their reproduction.
