A traffic light is a kind of traffic regulation tool found at road junctions, intersections, pedestrian crossings and other points where traffic control is needed. Traffic lights were first used in London in 1868. Of course, even the first automobile was not found in this date. Already, traffic lights were used in the first railway transportation. Traffic lights continued to be used only in railway transportation for a long time. In 1914, Garrett Morgan, an American car owner, found the first electric car traffic light and made it possible to use it for vehicles. Garrett sold the patent for this to General Electric, one of the largest companies in the world, for 40 thousand dollars in 1963.

The first traffic lights had only red and white colors. The yellow color known today was added later. When it was first used, red was used to mean stop and white was used to mean late. However, this situation was changed due to various problems such as mixing the white color with other street lamps and the falling of the light lenses and showing white light instead of red, and red stop and green late colors were started to be used. The yellow color used today was added much later.
